No doubt inspired by the successful Hunger Games franchise, The Survival Games has started its Kickstarter Campaign with a goal of $20,000 to bring us an immersive and deeply strategic competitive multiplayer experience that will balance realism and fun in a way that’s, with any luck, as appealing as the book series. Jokes aside, The Survival Games does promise a fresh experience that is, at the very least, new to gaming. Players begin arranged in a circle, with the Trove positioned at the center of the arena. The Trove holds a straight-up smorgasbord of goodies like traps, bows, and swords, and players can decide whether or not running headlong into their opponents for a new sword is a good idea. Hell, I’d do it. After that initial clash, players take to the wilderness, trying to outsmart and out stealth their foes, crafting together things like traps and hang gliders while surviving the constant onslaught of an unpredictable Mother Nature. Combat is swift and meaningful every single time, because even if you survive, you may be injured or handicapped, and if you’re at a disadvantage it may not be hard for the hungry animals that inhabit the woods to make a meal out of you…
The Survival Games is currently under development by Hella Games Entertainment for PC, and Alpha/Beta access will be granted exclusively through Steam to all backers, although the game will be released DRM-free as well. $20,000 for a goal isn’t too much, and stretch goals include things like choosing your gender and deeper character customization.
