Breaking news, I know, but considering how much unearned recognition that silly Potato Salad campaign has gotten lately, many people have forgotten what crowdfunding is for. It’s not some vessel to earn ridiculous amounts of money making a side dish. It’s a place where people come together to help artists, game developers, musicians, and others a chance to follow any dream that requires money. Paint isn’t free, and potato salad damn sure doesn’t cost $50,000 to make, so let’s all take a step back from the ridiculous collective mistake mankind made by donating to a joke and look at something that truly deserves your attention.
The Grandfather is an absolutely gorgeous game with an eerie, hand drawn look to it. It’s literally about torment. And sorrow. A couple of feelings a struggling artist feels when their $500 goal is left unfulfilled while potato salad reigns supreme. The Grandfather is a dead serious labor of love from Michael Patrick Rogers, the mind behind The Lady, and his campaign has both the best artwork and the lowest goal of any project I’ve seen in a while. Stating that “it does not cost $100,000 to make a good game”, the goal is only $500 to get the ball rolling and collect all the people involved, at which point development will begin and further funding will be sought. There are no fancy reward tiers, just the game and its soundtrack, and I absolutely think that this is infinitely more worthy of your attention than any amount of salad, potato or otherwise.
To check out The Grandfather and the rest of MRP’s great portfolio of music, you can visit Kickstarter. Give the page a share, maybe even donate a few bucks. If you donated to Potato Salad, this is the only way you can redeem yourself to the Gods of Crowdfunding.
