Developer InvertMouse has done quite well for themselves thanks to Kickstarter since 2014. Every single one of their campaigns have succeed so far, and Cursed Sight is the latest. If the name is familiar to you, it might be because you saw the free Steam release of Without Within (if not, feel free to check out our review!) or played Unhack. In any case, it seems Kickstarter success comes to easily for two main reasons: funding goals are always set at a fairly low threshold and that visual novel fans are quite obsessed with crowdfunding.
In any case, Cursed Sight shares the tale of a young woman named Miyon and the struggle she faces as an amazing individual who can manipulate fate. During a time of war between East and West Taria, her skills could even be used as a powerful weapon – but is that the fate she desires? Once a fellow name Gai is bequeathed to Miyon’s temple the two’s interactions will determine the future. As with many visual novels players will be presented with choices throughout a multi-hour playthrough and be led down one of multiple ending paths. It is also anticipated to be InvertMouse’s longest visual novel thus far.
Interested parties can download a demo (for Windows, Mac, or Linux) to get a taste for Cursed Sight’s artwork, narrative, and writing style. The game also requires more upvoting via Steam Greenlight. Luckily, since Cursed Sight already achieved its $2,000 AUD (about $1,500) funding goal there’s far more chance of achieving backer bonus stretch goals.
