Orcs Must Die! The Boardgame is a collaboration between Robot Entertainment, the developers behind the original Orcs Musts Die!, and award-winning designer Sandy Peterson. The game includes hordes of plastic figures, all detailing the grotestgue hordes of orcs, kobolds, trolls, ogres, heroes and more. This game uses a tile-based system, that can be customized for creating your own experiences! Watch as swarms of baddies plunge through your defenses to try and destroy your Rift.
Set Up
Orcs Must Die! The Boardgame supports 1-4 players who co-operate to survive the enemies’ onslaught. At the beginning of the game you’ll choose your own hero as your game avatar. Each hero has his own individual sheet which includes unique abilities; characteristics and a secret superpower that you’ll need to save for the right moment until you use it. Each hero also comes with their own over-sized miniature figure and special weapon cards that no one else has access to.
When you’re finished with the setup, you’ll need to choose a difficulty level and a map. This map may be one included or one that you have created yourself! A typical map is made up of from 4 to as many as 13 tiles. The game has a lot of pieces, but you’ll be able to customize it to fit the specifications that you see fit.
Features
Some of my favorite features include the custom dice which are appropriately different colored. These dice offer different results and are determined based on the weaponry you use and the upgrades you have access to.
You’ll also be able to earn trophy skulls as you kill your enemies. These skulls are the currency of Orcs Must Die! The Boardgame and can be spent to purchase new upgrades and weapons.
Head-To-Head
Want to be pitted against your friends? Well you’re able to with Orcs Must Die! The Boardgame: Order Edition and Orcs Must Die! The Boardgame: Unchained Edition. With this you can choose either the regimented Order or the legions of the Unchained and fight in an epic confrontation.
One side will fight for the Order, whilst the other fights for the Unchained. Each side has its own heroes, armies, items and traps. Your hero can defend your own citadel, or seek the destruction of your enemies’ lair. Since you’ll have friends at your side, some heroes can be set up for different tasks, or you can switch off duties keeping the game dynamic.
