Those who backed Max’s Big Bust at the alpha tier or above got treated to the very first build, which covers the first two days of his new life as a woman. Of course, being a backer far above that threshold I got a download myself. And after playing it I have to say that I can’t wait to see more. Unfortunately, just as it was getting good I got the message that the next build will be ready in a month. That’s going to be a long, hard wait.
The current build covers the first part of the game as Max accidentally gets his sex presumably irrevocably swapped during a raid on a drug run. At least having a strange artifact do it makes a little more sense than a strange green gas, but it still boggles the mind as to how it managed to do it in the first place. With strange writing on it I can only assume one thing. Cthulhu really does have a sense of humor.
Anyway, Max and his partner Brad get called to check in on a supposed shipment of a highly illegal drug called MinX. Being ever so cavalier he rushes in with his stun shotgun and starts sending jolts of electricity through the thugs guarding the vials. So, after torturing the poor sods Max goes off to secure the goods. And promptly finds a weird looking marble with electricity swimming through it. And then all hell breaks loose and he quickly finds himself the recipient of a quickie sex change.
Honestly, up until the cutscene Max’s Big Bust was rather boring. Max is an idiot, waving around his weapon like a madman…inside a restaurant. Who in their right mind does that?! And charging in without a plan against heavily armed goons is never a good idea. However, it gets really fun after he becomes a she. Trust me on this. I couldn’t stop laughing through the majority of what’s been shown.
The humor in Max’s Big Bust is risque but still tasteful. I honestly didn’t mind most of the jokes related to his transformation. Quite the contrary. Some were genuinely funny. My personal favorite had to be between Max and Ryley, the owner of CoffeeShrine. Instantly recognizing him even in “girl form” she points out that she runs a business specializing in turning guys into cute fox girls. The punchline being that most of them were so excited to be around hot women all day that they never read the fine print. I also enjoyed some of the juvenile humor. I really did snicker at the use of the term “booby trap”. Yes, I’m that immature.
The current build only runs roughly an hour or so, and it only has a couple decision branches, but what little I’ve seen shows a lot of promise. I can’t wait to see how Max continues to cope with having to live life as a woman and all the crazy shenanigans that are planned for future releases. It’ll be hard to wait for a month, especially when I’ve been told that a certain backer character might make an appearance in the next build.
