Blackwake is looking amazing right about now, and the latest update up for display really shows off the games visuals. Beyond that, it has added new ships, weapons, and mechanics. Let’s dive straight in shall we?
Visually, Blackwake has taken some huge bounds this update. The developers state that they’re trying to balance visuals with computer performance since they don’t want to sacrifice gameplay for looks. They showed off the new ocean shader and boasted over the improved movement of the water. In a game on the high seas, one can most certainly see why this is essential, however, beyond the waves we also have fire being added in. The shaders on the sails of the ship have been adjusted to be more translucent to give them a more realistic look in the sunshine. They can also catch fire, which appeals greatly to my inner pyromaniac.
On top of visuals, a whole range of new guns have been added to the game. Glancing over them definitely shows how well designed they are and the developers also mention that the weapon animations have been added in. An amusing little tidbit is that developers have replaced bandages used to heal with bottles of rum. These bottles can be broken and used as weapons as well. It’s a small thing, but attention to detail is something that always brings a smile to my face. Weapons weren’t the only things added, we have a whole new ship in the game and the ability to customize it as well as others.
Blackwake will allow for the players’ ship to be coloured to their liking within a restricted colour palette dictated by region. Blackwake has certainly seen a lot of rewriting and fine-tuning since its Kickstarter debut. I certainly feel rather excited about the game and if nothing else, at the least, I can rock out to their soundtrack and if not I’ll just sing my favorite shanty until the next update.
