Monkey Island meets Monty Python. That’s the tag line for Lancelot’s Hangover, an irreverent comedy set during the Middle Ages as you play the half-naked titular character in search of the Holy Grail and some booze to put into it. If that’s not enough to get your funny bone tingling then read on, but I will say this. I’ve been waiting to see this one go live for as long as I’ve heard about it. And Jean-Baptiste looks to deliver on his promises of a point-and-click adventure game inspired by the greats.
If the pitch is any indication then I’m already sold on the humour of Lancelot’s Hangover. There is a one-hour demo to try out if you’re on the fence but I don’t even have to load it up to know that I’ll be laughing my ass off at every turn. The fact that it describes France as “a dangerous place, where all men are gay and women have hair under their arms“, not to mention shots at Christianity and other tongue-in-cheek references, it certainly screams Monty Python and the Holy Grail. In fact, if I didn’t already know better I’d swear that they were the ones behind this comedy fest.
I do plan on eventually giving the demo a spin, which is something that I had been meaning to do for months, but even so the teaser trailer and the text alone has me already sold on the premise. The pitch had me in stitches and I can already tell that Jean-Baptiste will produce a lovingly crafted spoof on Arthurian legend. I’ve started to get to know the guy personally and he’s a real joy to talk with. Which is one reason why I look forward to seeing his dream become a reality.
