deadrock2As one of the longest-standing genres of PC game, the tactical combat side of gaming has evolved quite a bit since its earlier iterations. Some steps have been forward, many back, and these days too many studios play it safe at the expense of innovation. The genre has come to a bit of a standstill lately, and fans of tactical combat are waiting patiently for the next evolution of the beloved genre. Is that next evolution Deadrock Divide? Well, only time can tell, but what developers Bootsnake Games are bringing to the table is interesting.

deadrock3Deadrock Divide is doing that a lot of other tactical games these days are doing – expanding upon the original concept of tactical combat by mixing in elements of other genres. So far, this has proved to be a worthy way of expanding immersion and story elements as well as adding variety. We’ve seen this demonstrated in games like Shadowrun Returns, and Deadrock Divide plans on bringing a similar take by adding RPG and exploration elements to the mix. You run free in open space in a buildable, upgradeable ship encountering all manner of space-professionals ranging from pirates to everyday miners. Choose your faction, build your ship, take to space, and explore an open world held up by a unique tale of resources and war.

deadrock4Deadrock Divide is being funded through Kickstarter to be developed by Bootsnake Games for PC, Mac, and Linux. If you’d like to learn a little more about this project, Kickstarter has info on progression, storyline, and the lore of the world in addition to more specific details on gameplay. To support Deadrock Divide, you can spread the word or pledge to its development on Kickstarter.
