I’m pulling myself out of my comfort zone even further, and exploring a game I normally wouldn’t try. Alice Dreams Tournament is a Bomberman inspired game made exclusively for the Sega Dreamcast. That’s right, the Dreamcast. That isn’t one I hear about to often, but apparently the Dreamcast has loyal fans, one of them being the makers behind Alice Dreams Tournament.
This game is heavily inspired by Bomberman with it’s maze maps, but the developers have made it a strong point to say they are not copying. Instead, they are using Bomberman as a foundation to build their own story and their own play modes based on the story of Alice in Wonderland. It’s a very intriguing concept, but what makes me want to try it most are the multiple game modes.
Six original game modes allow players to pick and choose how they want to experience Alice Dreams Tournament. The mode that really grabs my attention is called Hide and Seek. In this experience, players are surrounded my darkness in the map, except for the fourth, who must use the Dreamcast VMU screen to help find the others.
Alice Dreams Tournament also features a Brain battle mode that actually tests the players intellect. I see great potential and opportunity to teach people or even children through the use of a fun interactive game!
This shows great diversity in a single game just from multiple creative game modes. I’m sure the Dreamcast clan will be looking for this one.
