With so many video games out there in the world it’s impossible to stay knowledgeable about everything. Case in point, until today I’d never even heard of Crown of the Gods. However, it seems that this strategy MMO has been building fans online this year. Thanks likely to this highly devoted fanbase, when Gaming Addict Studios launched their Kickstarter campaign it found success in the first 17 minutes. That simply has to be a record for Kickstarter history!
For the uninitiated, Crown of the Gods is an online multiplayer strategy game which is free-to-play, but not “pay-to-win.” Players begin with a small city and must increase their sphere of influence as they explore the land. Of course, other players are also vying for the crown. The race to win involves battles as well as forging alliances. Unlike many strategy games you’re able to enjoy this meta game without micromanaging everything as well. There are features in place to allow for automation of basic tasks. Unlike most MMOs, this also does have the end goal of receiving a crown. Of course, you can play more matches as you desire afterward.
What Crown of the Gods is lacking right now – and hoped to faciliate via the $5,000 goal – is to hire a few artists. To be fair, their game doesn’t look hideous right now but they recognize that often fancy artwork will make a title more appealing to others. So far the campaign is at double its goal but chances are it’ll climb higher before ending. If you’d like to nab access into the closed beta then you’ll have to toss some funds into the $25 reward tier.

This game is obviously a 1-1 reverse engineering of LOU with a different skin – aren’t there legal issues here?
Good eye, I didn’t catch it. Definitely something to look into.
As for the free to play, only after you donate to them for a key can you actually play the game.
@disqus_kTGzUDLLvg:disqus , You are incorrect. the game itself is free to play, the alpha and now betas are closed to supporters of the campaign that are making the game happen. as with all beta’s, the supporters know going in that there will be bugs, and with a devoted fan base, the core group of players have helped fix the issue at a much more rapid pace than other games would allow.
@georgefinklang:disqus , while it certainly reminds us of that game, the same could be said about just about any game. toss me a title and ill tell you another that sort of looks like that game.
For the record, I played Ikariam, Civony(evony), Tribal Wars, Lord of Ultima, Tiberium Alliances, and probably 20+ more of those games, and am a supporter for Crown of The Gods.
