Are you into any of the following games?: Civilization, Eve Online, Total War? If you’re a fan of strategy then the answer is probably yes. Empyrean Rule – Rise of the Ancients is an upcoming online game which models itself after these excellent examples of the genre. It meshes both the large-scale strategic management of your rising empire but also allows for specific focus on real time battles. All of this takes place over a huge sandbox world, too, leaving lots of space to explore (and eventually gain control of).

One of Empyrean Rule’s key tenants is a focus on a variety of fantastical armies to play with or against. There are certainly humans but also creatures such as reanimated skeletons and goblins. Different races have their own special abilities, skills, and stats. Skills are upgraded via skill trees, which allow for increasing specialization. Mesh two of the wrong fantasy race together and you might find that they hate each other more than the enemies in battle. As such, it seems you’ll not only need to manage the battlefield but micromanage your own troop layouts. Gamers will be able to engage in Player vs Environment battles in single or cooperative mode as well as Player vs Player matches. The hope is to allow for up to 30 vs 30 matches.

There’s no doubt that developer Innofame Ltd. has a love for the strategy genre, as their campaign pitch is absolutely bursting with information. Of course, a feature-rich game like Empyrean Rule – Rise of the Ancients requires a fair chunk of change. This Kickstarter needs $40,000 to succeed for release on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
