After much controversy, Ouya has made some major revision to their Free The Games Fund guidelines.  Originally the project rules were open for potential abuse, now it seems many of those gaps have been filled.

Here’s a breakdown of the major changes as outlined here :

  • Project Minimum: $10k instead of $50k.
  • Minimum # of Backers: For every $10,000 raised on Kickstarter, there must be a minimum of 100 backers.
  • Exclusivity: 1 month for every $10k funded by OUYA up to 6 months.  This is a big change from before.
  • Bonus: Gone.
  • Fine Print:  Here’s a direct quote “It’s no longer just fine print to us. You need to play by the spirit of the fund as much as the rules. We can’t account for every loophole. So, if we, or our community, feel you are gaming the system, we will review your project (and consult with our developer friends for their advice) and determine whether to fund it or not.”

Hopefully the program can move forward now provide some financial rewards to some much deserving developers.
