No it’s not a hipster band name; Knite & The Ghost Lights is a beautiful looking game from Mobot Studios. This side scrolling action adventure set in the magical world of Mistland is compared by the developers to Metroid and Castlevania, but in saying that they seem to be selling themselves short. It’s almost like comparing it to The Neverhood simply because they both use stop motion clay animation. Sure, same arena, but a much different execution based on what’s been shown so far. In Knite you’ll explore the world and solve puzzles through a variety of methods, the most interesting of which involve light and sound. Your character will learn and play music (Loom anyone?) to interact with and control lost souls to help you on your way. Learning new songs is the equivalent of upgrading your weapons on other games in that it allows you to interact with different types of spirits to help accomplish different tasks.
Mobot Studios has been working on Knite & The Ghost Lights for some time now, as evident by the amount of artwork and expansive backstory Wiki they’ve created. They’re seeking $35,000 to help complete the game. Funds will go towards a number of the usual costs such as creating new content, but also towards more space to store the various set pieces.
The Knight & The Ghost Lights Kickstarter campaign runs until October 26th.
