A new Kickstarter project blew up over the weekend, taking in over $31,000 against a target of $70,000, not bad. Paradise Lost : First Contact is the tale of an alien life form being taken into a research facility and how the facility’s scientists and soldiers deal with the alien’s inevitable escape. The twist here is that in Paradise Lost the player controls the alien, not some run and gun solider.
Gameplay in Paradise Lost is described as “Metroidvania” in nature, which is a hip way of saying that there’s a lot to explore, but not every location is available to you right away. While you play you’ll be able to upgrade, or evolve, your alien plant to help make certain areas, puzzles, and boss battles easier. Take a look at the Kickstarter gameplay video and you’ll get an idea of the range of situation your plant friend will run into, not to mention some of the cooler abilities available to it.
Based on what’s known of the games story so far it’s easy to see how themes from Milton’s epic poem will work their way into the game, so prepare yourselves for some deep thinking as you battle your way through the mysterious research facility.
The Kickstarter campaign for Paradise Lost : First Contact runs until December 1st, and has a funding target of $70,000. Its first notable stretch goal comes in at $125,000, which will allow the developers to create a new playable episode.
