pockettroops2Heyworks have launched a Kickstarter campaign for Pocket Troops, their cartoonishly cute multiplayer military combat game.  Players choose their team from a variety of recruits, use various facilities to train them, and then send them on to the field of battle.  Rather than having direct control over units, ala General Chaos, players must rely on the decisions made during troops training to lead them to victory.

As you would expect, there’s lots of customization available to make your army a bit more personal, including clothes, base facilities, and maybe even custom skins; provided a couple stretch goals can be met.

pockettroops3The only thing that’s a little unclear is what the games’ bigger picture is.  Build your base, train your units, watch them fight… then what?  Pictures on the Pocket Troops Kickstarter page point to a Risk style campaign where you take over territory in a bid to control the world, but that could just be me connecting a few too many dots together.  The funding video, while cute and well put together, doesn’t give many details beyond “recruit, customize, and fight!”

I’ve reached out to the team at Heyworks to get more details; we’ll let you know when I get more info.  In the mean time head over to the Pocket Troops Kickstarter page before the funding period ends on February 13th.  If you like what you see, throw down some cash to help the team reach their $55,000 target.
