The late 90’s and early 2000’s were an amazing time to be a fan of multiplayer shooters. Unreal Tournament, No One Lives Forever, Counter-Strike, Tribes, Quake 3, Team Fortress, Soldier of Fortune, and Kingpin are just some of the fantastic shooters that came out within a brief two year window. They all offered a unique take on a crowded genre, whether it was in the form of setting, weapons, or game modes; each game had its own unique feel. However, one thing they all offered was adrenaline pumping online play that that was easy to pick up and enjoy. Yes, even Counter-Strike; before people had put thousands of hours into it. Sure, Battlefield and Call of Duty are fun, but many argue that they don’t have the personality or raw fun that shooters from the turn of the century had. However, there’s a small team that’s looking to do their part to remedy that situation.
Farrah Rogue – Zero Hour is, simply put, a throwback shooter from “…the good old days.” Gone are the hyper realistic environments, prestiging, and photo quality graphics. Instead, Farrah Rogue features levels focusing on fun over realism, upgrades via pickups, and heavily stylized graphics. In fact, the entire affair reminds me of the hilariously fun, but sadly underrated, Nerf Arena Blast. Much like Nerf Arena Blast, Farrah Rogue seems to focus on fast paced action that will be more likely to have you laughing out loud than bashing on your controller in frustration. If I was the corny type I’d describe this FPS as a Fun Person Shooter, but I’m not, so I won’t.
You can play the Alpha version of Farrah Rogue – Zero Hour for yourself if you have an Ouya; but don’t worry, the game is planned for release on Windows, Mac, Linux, WiiU, and Xbox One. Funding is happening through Kickstarter through June 29th, with a funding goal of $25,000.
