Hi there! Remember me? Nathaniel? No? Cool. I’ve been dead for awhile, but in the spirit of Halloween, I’ve risen from the dead to write a spoopy-scary article about a game that recently caught my eye. Oh how did it ever catch my eye.
The game I’m here to talk about humbly calls itself Asagao Academy: Normal Boots Club, but a quick glance at the Kickstarter page for this thrilling endeavor immediately reveals what it is: A saucy dating simulator starring the YouTube personalities and content producers of Normal Boots.
Ever wanted to hold hands with JonTron while his mechanical parrot Jaques watches from within his cage? You can probably do that! Ever daydream about sneaking a longing glance at one of ProJared’s many luxurious chins? Who hasn’t?!
As if you could possibly need to know more before backing this game, the game will be an otome or, for those of you who don’t know what that is (including myself until just moments ago), a romantic visual novel with a female protagonist. Not only that, but it’s going to be free, which is just fantastic, because I need to play this, but if it showed up on some sort of receipt, my girlfriend would become very justifiably suspicious.
You will play as Hana Mizonu, a young girl who’s newly transferred to the titular Asagao Academy in search of a new start. Instead of finding a new start, she stumbles into the full Normal Boots crew consisting of, but not limited to, ProJared, JonTron, PeanutButterGamer, SatchBag, The Completionist, and more.
The game itself has been in development since February of 2014, so it’s not very far from completion as-is, and the current Kickstarter goal of $12,000 will simply make it feasible to release it for free. Also, don’t worry about this ending the same as the rumored Pewdiepie dating sim. The developer of Asagao Academy: Normal Boots Club has received the thumbs-up from Normal Boots, so it’s smooth sailing from here on out… In fact, one of the stretch goals is honest-to-goodness voice acting from the guys themselves. (So is a path that lets you get romantically involved with Jaques, his mechanical bird.)
If you like dating sims, if you like Normal Boots, or if you forgot to buy me a birthday present, go back Asagao Academy: Normal Boots Club immediately. Or don’t. This might be something I’m weirdly excited about.
