The concept for Courier of the Crypts began back in 2011 during the Ludum Dare #20 competition, the theme being “You won’t be going alone, take this!” Thus a small top-down pixelated dungeon crawler was created. Later on that year, Primož Vovk revisited his project and realized he could really expand this project even further into something amazing. In the years since then, Primož has balanced full-time work, school, and development on Courier of the Crypts, frequently redesigning and restyling it, refining it to its current style.
In Courier of the Crypts, players are just that, a courier in a crypt. This particular courier is sent out one day with a message for the guardian of the crypts. Naturally, something happens that makes his journey significantly more difficult. Now, the courier must explore the depths of the crypts, learning its secrets and mysterious history that have been long forgotten. Luckily, our courier has his handy dandy magic torch illuminating a ring of protection even in the darkest corners of the crypt.
The torch will be the most useful item the courier could have. It is the ultimate defense against the enemies but the player must ensure the torch is constantly lit. One of the main components of the gameplay is exploration. Secret passageways, maps, and puzzles are scattered throughout the crypts that lead the courier further along.
Primož Vovk plans to release Courier of the Crypts in late 2015 on Windows both DRM free and on Steam and GOG. But to do this he needs some financial help to support the remainder of development, taxes, and all the musical aspects of Courier of the Crypts. For this, he’s launched an IndieGogo campaign and is asking for €10K by December 11th.
The demo for Courier of the Crypts is available for download on the IndieGogo page and Primož has put Courier of the Crypts on Steam Greenlight as well.
