A lot of times, futuristic fiction tends to imagine a future where people attempt to leave the Earth when the planet is collapsing due to natural/social reasons. However, in Neptune Flux, the world has become nearly uninhabitable and space transportation just isn’t going to happen. Instead, humanity turns to the Earth’s oceans as a last potential means of survival. Sarah is the member of a team called A.Q.U.A. set to colonize the sea depths and gather additional resources. Players will explore the ocean, solve missions, and uncover secrets in this upcoming adventure game.

Although it may feel different than a point and click adventure, that’s where developer Zoxide Games is getting most of their inspiration. Because there’s no natural light so deep underwater, you’ll need to strategically use light sources aboard your vessel and learn more about the wrecks and treasures you come upon. The dive pod Sarah uses to get around is also upgradeable once you nab some cash from completing a mission. Seem like this game might be all the more immersive in virtual reality? Well, those fortunate enough to own a VR headset will be able to explore Neptune Flux with it. However, a headset certainly isn’t required to play and enjoy.

Neptune Flux needs $8,000 in funding to succeed and it seems backers are currently responding well to the project. If you can’t support the Kickstarter but would still like to help out then here’s a link to the game’s Steam Greenlight page. Neptune Flux is planned for release on Windows and Mac.
