It’s a shame that we don’t tend to see as many successes on Indiegogo as we do on Kickstarter, but when we do, they’re basically confirmed as awesome projects. Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm was one such project which saw $118,243 worth of success on Indiegogo. That was back in 2013 and much of this success was due not only to the classic look of the fighting game, but because it actually was developed by former SNK members! In a world where even King of Fighters has gone polygonal, someone had to keep the flame burning for pixel art fighting titles.
The road from Indiegogo until now has been quite a long, challenging journey but finally Nyu Media revealed the release date. Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will launch on Steam on July 7. This is a worldwide launch and, although only Steam is mentioned right now, other digital distributors are planned later on. Of course, those who backed at the proper tier or above will receive keys to begin playing early. For those that won’t be receiving the game as a backer reward, you can instead buy a copy for $14.99.
There’s just a few things to note about this release. Although it is not an Early Access launch on Steam, Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm is not totally complete just yet. The few features they’ve still got to put in include GGPO implementation as well as a few backer tier-related goodies. With that said, the developers felt ready to finally share their nearly complete fighter with the world. Pre-orders aren’t open yet, and may not be, so keep July 7 marked on your calendar!
This is why coverage for these projects is important, back when they launch this crowdfunding campaign I had no idea they were doing it. Oh well, glad to see the project came out!
