Do you fancy yourself a fan of both classic point and click adventure games and their more cinematically-inspired descendants such as Heavy Rain? If so, then The Last Time may prove a happy medium between these two points. This upcoming title just hit Kickstarter with a pitch hoping to meld both styles of game. It all starts off with a police officer named Jack Glover who has surprisingly come across little danger in his career — until one day. The result of those traumatic events prove enough to send him straight into retirement. All these years later he’s simply living in a retirement home until someone from his past calls Jack up and forces him to recount the past.
The Last Time brings players into Jack’s world as he must summon himself to act despite wanting nothing to do with modern technology and human interaction. In many ways, it will work just like your typical point and click adventure, with item puzzles and such. However, developer Big Cow Studios hopes to generate puzzles which are both intuitive and “blend seamlessly into the narrative.” They’ve also taken inspiration from the likes of Telltale Games and Quantic Dream via offering multiple dialogue choices and options which alter the storyline.
Curious about The Last Time? There’s a demo available, which also serves as a story prologue, for Windows, Mac, and Linux on itch.io. The full game will be available on iOS and Android too. If you enjoy it, then consider helping out toward the Kickstarter goal of about $6,208 (converted from Pounds). Or, you can also give The Last Time an upvote on Steam Greenlight.
