The Spirit Siege Kickstarter launched just under a year ago and succeeded thanks in part to a fun card game dynamic, cute artwork, and fantasy themes. Unfortunately, things are no longer progressing as backers would hope — in fact, development won’t be moving forward at all for a while.

In early June, developer Nova Heartbeat revealed one of their key staff members was leaving the company to work elsewhere. This post ended with “until next week!” but a post did not arrive the next week. A month later, Spirit Siege’s latest update reveals why:

At the end of the month, we are temporarily shutting down development on Spirit Siege while we look for an engineer to finish out the work on the project.

Even so, they do intend to have the beta build (on iOS and Android) sent out to backers by the end of July. That’s about as close as backers will get to playing Spirit Siege for a while, though. Here’s hoping Nova Heartbeat finds a new engineer to resume work sooner rather than later.
