Visual novel fans rejoice. Mecha fans rejoice. Tactical action game fans rejoice. That’s right. There’s a game that combines the best of all worlds. Cross Fate, at its core, is a tactical mecha combat game featuring everyone’s favorite giant robots beating the crap out of each other. But, during downtime and between missions scenes between the various characters in the game unfold in a visual novel style format. It doesn’t really sound like it should work, but it looks like they might be able to pull this off should it get funding.

Cross Fate

Here’s the gist of Cross Fate. It’s sometime in the future and mankind has developed the technology to build mecha, reach the stars, and good stuff like that. And apparently with advanced technology comes the need for piracy. For who doesn’t want to walk around in a bipedal suit of armor built for wanton destruction? Or something. It’ll be up to you as the commander of a group of students to take it to the enemy and save the day.

Soon you will be involved in a faction war between the Earth and the Moon, turf wars between ruling gangs, and even have to deal with a group of dangerous terrorists set on impeding your progress.

Cross Fate

It’s hard to gauge a game based solely on some text and a few screenshots, so I can’t say how viable I see this combination. But, I will say this. I’m sure that there’s something here that will appeal to almost anyone that likes any of these elements. Fans of multiples should find even more to love. Personally, I’m not a mecha combat fan. I do like the stories but don’t ask me to play one. However, I do love the visual novel angle. Almost enough to consider backing Cross Fate just for that.
