I’m big into tabletop gaming. I’ve been roleplaying for about fifteen years now, and one title I’ve enjoyed was 7th Sea. I have fond memories of playing it, so it was a no-brainer to back the 2nd edition of the game. Fans now have an opportunity to get treated to a video game adaptation in Voyage of Fortune’s Star. Not only is John Wick himself a part of the project, but the creator has been around Kickstarter more than a few times.
Stewart Wieck should be familiar to White Wolf fans, but he’s also no stranger to crowdfunding. I’ve backed a couple of his tabletop projects already, and I have yet to be disappointed. He communicates with backers regularly and I doubt Voyage of Fortune’s Star will be any different. As a fan of both the source material and the pedigree behind the campaign, this was an instant pledge.
A Voyage to Théah
The Kickstarter gives those unfamiliar with the lore behind the land of Théah a quick primer, which is important in an adaptation like Voyage of Fortune’s Star. Those who know the setting can basically skip about a third of the text if they want. The most important stuff can be found in the videos, including how the game plays.
As an added bonus to early adopters of Voyage of Fortune’s Star, from now until the campaign funds its $200,000 goal anyone can pledge to the $17 “first mate” tier at a discounted price. Of course, as with any Kickstarter the higher your pledge the more stuff you get. Even the add-ons are enticing to go a little bit higher.
(Ed. We’ve added the promising Voyage of Fortune’s Star to our Kickstarter Curator page, check it out at Kickstarter.com/cliqist.)
Oh, the tales I could tell of my group’s adventures sailing the high seas of Théah, like my character managing to get both crabs and scurvy from an admiral’s daughter. 😉
Anyway, those interested in which campaigns I backed, they’re Scarred Lands (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1861515217/scarred-landsfrpg-setting-in-both-5e-and-pathfinde) and Hellywood (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1861515217/hellywood-a-noir-tabletop-rpg). I also almost backed Prince Valiant (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1861515217/prince-valiant-storytelling-game-by-greg-stafford), but didn’t have the money for it at the time.
