I will freely admit I’m an MMO junkie. For almost two decades I’ve been playing one or another practically non-stop. However, sometimes I also find that reality and the fantasy world of the game tends to blur for me. What exactly is “reality”, anyway? That’s something humanity has been struggling with since we could form rational thought. Philosophy stems from these questions, so why not put it all into a visual novel blender? Enter /Reality, a game dealing with just these issues.

/Reality

The basic story behind /Reality revolves around a virtual reality online game called Vitalia. A group of beta testers have been invited to try it out. One of our protagonists stumbles across a strange mystery. The pitch doesn’t delve deep into the plot, but the basic idea that one can literally lose themselves in a game speaks volumes to me. It’s also a pretty popular concept as a good number of anime series recently have delved into this territory.

In true visual novel fashion, /Reality has branching paths and romance options. While that usually is enough for me to seek out more, it’s the aforementioned philosophical and gaming addiction angles that really has me wanting to know more. There is a short demo to try out and I do plan on giving it a go when I can.

/Reality

I love a good visual novel, and I feel that /Reality has the potential to be one I will enjoy playing. The asking goal is modest and I see it making funding before the time is up, but whether I back this one or not I know I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
