Retro gamers gotta game, it’s sort of their thing. Understandably, it’s not easy to find spiffy new games for outdated consoles. Occasionally a crowdfunded project will come along that can fill that void. Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs ran a successful Kickstarter campaign by offering a host of retro goodies back in 2015. Among the most sought after was a physical copy of the game for the Sega Dreamcast.

The campaign offered two different versions of the physical Dreamcast edition, a regular version and the special Limited Edition. The Limited Edition was only available on Kickstarter and featured exclusive packaging, poster, and game OST. Backers had the chance to pick up one of only 200 individually numbered units during the campaign. Wanting to the keep the edition special, Team Saber Rider had no plans to offer more. Until now.

Requests for the Dreamcast Limited Edition of Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs continued to pour in long after the campaign had ended. Finally, with their most recent update, Team Saber Rider thinks they’ve come up with a solution.

“Second” Limited Edition Run

“The Dreamcast Limited Edition we had during the Kickstarter was sold out and I think it is not fair to just raise the limitation of it. Afterall such a LE should be exclusive, otherwise it misses the point. We have decided to create another LE so everybody has the same chance.”

The new Limited Edition, tagged the “Ramrod Edition,”comes in a super jewel box and includes the same extras as the original Limited Edition. The newest edition is also slightly less limited than the one backers pledged toward. This time there are 499 individually numbered copies available. The price is €99.00.

It remains to be seen if avid collectors will insist on adding a second Limited Edition to their collection. After all, it’s not everyday you get the chance to buy a 16-bit shooter, based on a 1986 animated space western. Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is scheduled for release in Q2 of 2017.
