Developer WayForward may have already released Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, but their work is far from over. Currently they are plugging away on their first Kickstarter stretch goal DLC, Risky Boots. Players will take on the role of Shantae’s arch nemesis, the nefarious lady-pirate, Risky Boots in her own full campaign. In order to keep the Half-Genie hype train rolling, they also surprised backers with a new Hard Core gameplay mode.

The new Hard Core Mode is free to backers and everyone who has purchased Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. The new content arrives on March 6th through the first game stability update (Update 1.01). Included with the new mode are bug fixes for all platforms and PlayStation Vita support.

In their recent Kickstarter update, WayForward made it clear that Hard Core Mode would live up to its name. “This mode is designed to provide an old-school, tough-as-nails challenge to players who miss the days of rage-quitting and throwing controllers.”

Not For The Faint Of Heart

It’s certainly not a mode that appeals to everyone. Hard Core Mode will test a player’s mettle, while also demanding full mastery of the game.

“Trust us, there is no mercy to be found in this new mode, and if you want to survive you’ll need to master the game completely. There is no mercy to be found here – it’s Hard Core!”

The update also hinted at possible Nintendo Switch news on the horizon. With WayForward being a Switch developer I think it’s safe to assume Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will find its way to the new platform at some point in the not too distant future.
