Epic Manager is squeezing into the fantasy game genre and looks to redefine it, taking aspects of Dungeons and Dragons (random encounters), Final Fantasy Tactics (level-based job system), Crusader Kings II (management simulation) and melding them together to create something unheard of before. Developed by Montreal-based studio, ManaVoid, Epic Manager is a fantasy RPG with tycoon elements where the player is in control of the adventure, in fact, they’re the head honcho and calling all the shots.
In Epic Manager, players begin in a small town with a handful of adventurers. The manager controls whatever quests/adventures they embark on and determine where the scouts (adventurer recruiters) should go. Over time, the player acquires gold, additional (and stronger) adventurer staff, and fame. Players will choose between adventurers and scouts of varying classes and skills but with a little time, patience, and nurturing, they can level up and improve. Additionally, players will be tested in a mind bending narrative and random events that test the player’s tact in the midst of adventures.
Once the player’s adventure team is more established, it’s time to expand their horizons and explore more territory (which is over a hundred available). Eventually, the player has the opportunity to go anywhere they want on the map and be the most epic manager of all.
ManaVoid has been developing Epic Manager full time using their own funds for a while but need some support to keep up the momentum financially. For that, they have launched an Epic Manager Kickstarter campaign, hoping to raise at least $30K for additional artists, keep up the development, and reach out to the community to get a feel for some feedback.
Epic Manager is planned to be released on PC, Mac, and Linux in Dec. 2015, with a Beta release in Aug. 2015. Additional consoles and mobile platforms are in stretch goals.
