There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? Probably not, as Medieval Awakening, the first project from developer Adam Lenneman, has only just arrived on Kickstarter, where it hopes to raise $10,000 before Halloween.
The premise is fairly ambitious for a first-time developer, but the game certainly sounds intriguing, and it looks quite pretty too. Described as a ‘Medieval adventure game taking place in a world after a cataclysmic event almost destroys the world’ (no points for phrasing), the Kickstarter page very deliberately avoids going too deeply into the game’s narrative so as to keep things as spoiler-free as possible.A little more information would have been nice, however, as the Kickstarter page doesn’t really tell us anything about the game itself. We know it’s a story-driven adventure game, but have little else to go on. How will it play? From what perspective? What does it bring to the table that other titles in the genre don’t? Why does it need to exist? I’m willing to forgive most of these omissions on the allure of the game’s narrative alone (which does have me interested), but revealing just a little more information would’ve gone a long way to entice potential backers.
Lenneman is aiming to develop the game for PC first, with possible plans to bring the game to consoles further down the line. He’s also promising that the final game will be DRM-free and feature free updates. Here’s wishing him all the best with his first project, too. I know I’m rooting for him.
