It’s the ‘Year of ToeJam’, apparently, as Humanature Studios’ ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is very much on course for its fall release date, as detailed in a recent update to the project’s Kickstarter page.
The project, if you’re unaware, has a decent amount of support, as evidenced by its Kickstarter Staff Pick award. 8,873 backers hungry for retro goodness poured over half a million dollars into the project, ensuring the 90s will come back swinging later this year. At least, that’s the hope.
I feel like Humanature Studios can be trusted, however. If you didn’t know, they’re the team behind the wonderfully weird Doki Doki Universe, which is quite unlike anything else out there. Genuinely. I’m struggling to think of a comparison. Nonetheless, Doki Doki is wonderfully crafted, and a ToeJam & Earl sequel/reboot seems like a perfect step-up for the developer.
The update showcases some new art and music for the game, and reveals a few other tidbits. You can check out the project’s official Kickstarter page for more information. Groovy.
It’s great to see this series return. Between this, Mighty No. 9 and Yooka Laylee, the return of the faithful games of the past are returning.
