This is Confederate Express

Remember Confederate Express?  It’s the great looking isometric tactical RPG that raised about $40,000 last November.  Since destroying their original funding goal the team behind ConEx have only posted two updates, a little frustrating but not necessarily unheard of.

The first post funding update, back in December, gave good and not so good news.  The good news was that a small venture capital firm had stepped in to help provide additional funding to the game.  Thanks to that additional funding every single stretch goal was instantly unlocked, including additional playable races, HQ features, a new storyline, and possibly some multiplayer.  The downside was that the ConEx guys would have to help another team work on an unnamed project they were nearing completion on.  The work with the other team was only scheduled to take a couple months, so it didn’t seem like the end of the world, especially when you consider the potential stretch goal upshot.

This is NOT Confederate Express

Fast forward to the end of February and there’s a new update.  Unfortunately while the update provides a bit of info on engine improvements, it mainly focuses on the unnamed project the team was contracted out for in exchange for the additional ConEx funding.  While the screenshots in the update look very promising, they’re not from ConEx; instead they’re from the unnamed project.  The mystery project, set to be announced on April 15th, looks to be a side scrolling beat-em-up based on the level images shown thus far.  How does that impact backers of ConEx?  After all, it’s not like they’ll be getting the mystery project as part of their ConEx support.  Aside from a delay in ConEx the benefit appears to be the additional work put into the games engine; which isn’t something to sneeze at.

With any luck in addition to learning about the mystery project on April 15th we’ll also get some new info on ConEx.  Stay tuned!  WHile you’re waiting you could always busy yourself with our interview of ConEx head honcho, Maksym Pashanin
