I’ve Got The Music In Me And It’s God-like
Pann the game – Previewed
By Julie Morley
Pann is a special dimension where our tales, legends, and mythology have become a reality. Deities roam the realm of Pann, watching over life on planet Earth. It’s because of the deities that humans are able to coexist peacefully and progress to where they have. After all, they’re the ones who set guidelines and laws for them to follow in the first place.
When it’s time to change up the chain of deities, the young and potent princes have to step up for selection. When the old generations of deities are replaced, they retire to Earth to be reborn as a human being. Occasionally, though it is rare, a human being is picked to compete to be a Deity.
This where we meet Apollo comes in. He’s an orphan who’s been getting by with his sister, Rosa, ever since his parents’ disappearance. But when his sister gets sick by some unknown cause, he suddenly decides that it’s time to find out the truth about them. In the midst of his search, he discovers a strange instrument that he had never seen before. Out of curiosity, he decides to play it, then he gets sucked into the world of Pann.
When sent to Pann, Apollo runs into a god of music by the name of Mai. Through conversation, Apollo learns that he must reach Krishna, the god of cross-universal travel, in order to get back home to Rosa, which sets him out on a long journey we know as Pann the Game.
Pann the Game is designed with a heavy concentration of musical aspects. A musical instrument is one of the reasons Apollo is in this entire mess so it would make sense for it to be an important component of Pann; it is a 2D rhythm action platformer that relies on music to create a flow of movement and action for the player after all.
With every movement that coordinates with the music, Apollo almost gets a boost. Everything he does is more powerful and he gains special abilities. Everything going on is meant to synchronize with the music playing. But Apollo isn’t alone, he has a companion named MIYA to help him out. MIYA contains a pretty little cluster of weaponry and tricks for Apollo to use in battle. Plus, when faced with any sort of puzzle or blocked path, MIYA is the first to help. Along the way, Apollo will discover instruments scattered throughout the realm of Pann. These instruments can be utilized to unlock a plethora of abilities for Apollo. Consider this almost like a leveling up system in Pann the Game. The most he nurtures his skills, he will grow to master them, thus unlocking more abilities and increasing his power.
Pann the Game is intended to be fast paced and heavily rely on the player’s attentiveness to the music and skill combo interest. Through Kickstarter, Glass Cannon Entertainment is seeking €30,000 in funding by May 29th. If funded, Pann the Game will be released on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
