If you’re visiting our site then it’s very likely you play video games. So, how would you feel if your video gaming “addiction” could actually be utilized to make important discoveries? That concept is the basis of a new project on Kickstarter called Afterimage. You play as a typical person with a love of gaming who is somehow able to utilize it to solve the disappearance of their friend. Beyond that, developer 16BitGenocide is fairly sparse on the details of how this all works out.
In any case, they still showcase a bit about the project. It takes an isometric perspective of the world and places you in direct control of said gamer. There’s also a very distinct point and click adventure vibe going on, although whether it’ll actually feature “point and click” gameplay, or more action-oriented aspects, remains to be seen. The coolest part of Afterimage thus far is definitely the environment. There are tons of dark, atmospheric shadows in the city setting which would feel right at home in a noir film. Of course, instead of taking place in the 20th century this game has a far flung future aesthetic where everything is apparently shades of neon.
There’s not much else one can say about Afterimage right now as the Kickstarter isn’t packed full of information. Considering the goal of $20,000, 16BitGenocide should definitely consider beefing up their description in the next few days. As of right now the two-man group behind Afterimage are only targeting Windows PCs.
