Video games used to be incredibly simple affairs. Arcades were filled to the brim with easy to understand but incredibly challenging to master titles that players couldn’t get enough of. The likes of arcade classics such as Asteroids, Lunar Lander, and Missile Command inspired developer Mutated Software to launch a Kickstarter campaign for their own title: Blue-Collar Astronaut. You can easily see the inspiration thanks to its very simple controls and gravity-based gameplay.

Blue-Collar Astronaut is a beautifully hand-drawn physics arcade game similar to Lunar Lander, and it's crowdfunding on Kickstarter.Players take control of a spaceship/car in a 2D perspective and fly about in space over a variety of levels. There are three level types so far which include driver’s ed, pizza delivery, and truckin’. Driver’s ed helps players get accustomed to the gravitational pull and controls to hopefully drive through space without crashing into everything. Once out of those stages you can engage in other activities. For example, pizza delivery gives you a sort of Crazy Taxi experience where you’re required to deliver pizza to locations before time runs out. Beyond all this there are modes based on time, health, and fuel to change up gameplay a bit more.

With that in mind, the developers have smartly provided a demo that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. If you can’t pledge to their $15,000 Kickstarter campaign you can still help! Just give the Steam Grenlight page an upvote to push Blue-Collar Astronaut toward an official Steam release.
