Do we have any Treasure fans in the house? That developer created many classic titles such as Gunstar Heroes and also happens to be one of the main inspirations behind a new video game – Daydreamer. This Kickstarter campaign hopes to allow for the creation of a new take on 16-bit sidescrolling shooters. You play as Olivia who is tasked with finding her brother. Thankfully, she has some special powers which allow her to take on all the disturbing and strange enemies along the way.
Sidescrolling action games may not be the most unique thing in gaming right now but Daydreamer still manages to stand out from the pack immediately. All you have to do is take one look at the game. The pre-rendered CG sprites look incredibly distinctive. Because of the pre-rendered technique they look very different from standard game models. Of course, the creature and level designs appear to be top notch as well. There’s definitely some super creative people working behind the scenes to make this game a reality. Perhaps this game might spur a trend toward pre-rendered art again, the likes of which we haven’t really seen since Donkey Kong Country.
In any case, Daydreamer seems like a game with a lot of ambition and easy to understand gameplay. This project requires $65,000 to succeed as well. Here’s hoping that due to the drought of Kickstarter campaigns lately more people will give this one a look. If you’d like to help but can’t back it, feel free to check out their Steam Greenlight page. Despite that going live in October it still somehow hasn’t managed to receive enough upvotes for Greenlight success.
