Wintertide is a team-oriented survival game by new game developer Contagious Crow, which takes place in the frigid, wintry heart of the Rocky Mountains. Aesthetically reminiscent of some of the horrors in Jack London’s works pertaining to survival, Wintertide challenges the player to team up with other survivors to brave the elements and hostile creatures. Players can protect themselves with a variety of improvised weapon options, as well as firearms.

Wintertide

Wintertide’s primary talking points are a unique reincarnation system (which allows the player to reincarnate as an animal upon death, and allows them to hunt the other players), the ability to track and hunt others, a competitive 5v5 team deathmatch mode, a standard crafting/looting system, and an execution option which can be triggered if the player catches another off-guard (and if they have the right weapon for the job).

With the recent moderate lapse in interest in zombie survival horror games, Wintertide can provide a newer avenue for survival horror, but I’m curious to see if that is what will end up happening. The Kickstarter for Wintertidee launched on October 27, 2015 and is currently sitting at a few hundred dollars into its funding goal.
