Another month, another visual novel published by Sekai Project is now on Kickstarter! This time it is The Human Reignition Project by Alienworks. Those with a taste for games from the English visual novel scene have probably already heard of it, too. After all, this is a title that has been in development for basically two years now! You can chalk that up to the fact that, as devoted as the developers are, their time is quite busy split between school and work. It’s that same old story which has brought many other creatives to Kickstarter, after all.
Enough about that, though, here’s what The Human Reignition Project is about. It’s a near-future storyline where technology has all but eliminated the need for face-to-face human interaction. Fears about robots taking over all jobs have also come true. Really, it seems there’s little need for humans or humanity at all. Most sit idly by as technology rules the world, but one small group hopes to “turn back the clock” and see things returned to the way they once were. Our protagonist is a member of this group, along with a cast of youthful women. Players will explore the storyline as they potentially romance one of them.
Perhaps part of the reason why The Human Reignition Project has taken so long is due to the intended scope. Alienworks desires to make this a visual novel with half a million words! They estimate this puts their game at around the 30 hour mark for most players. The Human Reignition Project needs $22,000 in funding on Kickstarter and seems set to blast through that goal soon enough. In the meantime, consider upvoting their Greenlight page to ensure this game comes to Steam.

If they pull it off then they deserve to succeed.
It’s definitely a lofty goal to create such a huge visual novel. Hopefully it doesn’t take two moooore years.
It looks interesting but I’m not going to back this one. Partially because it’s way too ambitious of a project for what they’re asking for and partially because I’m already backing way too many projects as it is. I’m certainly keeping an eye on this one, though.
Yeah, and at least there’s no need to fear that a few of us NOT backing will cause it to fail. It’s tracking to succeed without much issue at all, haha.
Hm, i am actually still waiting to see one of their game released..the one i backed aren’t out yet..(backed everything except Clannad and Grisaia because…i know them both too damn well..).
Their Moe Headphones came out! lol… But yeah, they’ve got those episodic VNs that both only have the 1st episode out still. I can’t begin to imagine how Sekai Project manages their campaigns, and in fact runs multiple at once (like Memory’s Dogma is still going!).
I don’t know the way things are looking from an outsider like me..is that they are using the funding they gathered to become publisher rather than developper.
Finishing their games seems a sub-tier goal into their transformation towards it.
I can’t count how many VN i’ve seen saying they got a partnership with them and i can’t say i feel good about it. Coming to KS for a creator was also so they could keep their creativity and not be bound by publishers. Here we got one that he’s using it in order to expand their influence.
I’d really like to see the tenants and specs of those contracts they’ve made.
I am pretty sure i’d find interesting things about it and some crazy loopholes.
Personally I’m not sure why so many indie VN developers are excited to join up with them (I suppose it is because Sekai Project is becoming “famous” in a sense). Since you can publish your own game on Steam, publishers aren’t necessary for niche titles to succeed anymore. Especially VNs… Many such as No One But You and Starlight Vega were doing just fine on KS without extra support.
I’m curious of Sekai offers any input into price goals. Like, for example this project, did Alienworks decide on the KS goal themselves or did Sekai suggest how much a project of this scope would cost? Because Sekai should have a pretty good idea at this point (post Clannad, Grisaia, and other titles they need to translate). I would assume creating a game from the ground up costs even more, but could be wrong! Sekai has 50ish games they’re the publisher of, gauging from the list I made.
I would love to see the contracts as well, haha. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s something we will ever have access to (unless we create a project and partner with them!!).
Well, i am glad i am not the only one that find all that both shady and interesting ^^
I guess they also offer some sort of expertise? We can’t say it’s about releasing games..since we’re still waiting on it (as a dev) ..but as a publisher they do have released some..
As a creator it is difficult to handle the team, contract, rewards, steam access, everyone feedback..the KS. I guess having someone taking over some of those tasks..is one of the thing that makes them attractive..too.
I’d be too interested to see how much influence they have on the goal and maybe even the artistic direction of those project..and don’t tempt me about doing a VN because i could lol! (i actually possess the necessary skills and experience..)
