Morphies Law developers Cosmoscope GmbH have gone back to the drawing board on their team-based shooter to bring a reworked version to PC and Switch. The game re-released just a few days ago on July 30, under the new name Morphies Law: Remorphed.
The Return of Morphies Law
The game is essentially an online shooter (not unlike Overwatch) with a twist – that twist being your ability to change size and shape. You control a Morphie, a malleable little robot with a gun. Shooting others makes you grow in size while they shrink. The more hits you land the more you grow, so the better you are at the game the bigger you’ll get.
It’s not just your overall size that’s subject to change. You also have eight separate body parts that can warp, each with their own unique abilities. Individual body parts react to damage by themselves, so you could end up with giant legs, or a mini head.
Excitingly, Remorphed features crossplay, allowing Switch and PC players alike to join forces as they lay waste to the cheery post-humanity landscape.
Second Time’s the Charm
Morphies Law had a poor initial reception when it first came out last year. While this was partly thanks to some technical and connectivity problems, it failed to generate much attention with its surprise Switch launch.
There’s no denying it can be difficult to market as an indie. Try as you might to spread the word about your game, whether you pick up a sizable audience or not is always a roll of the dice.
The relaunch looks to have had smoothed out many of the technical issues. The game itself has been critically praised for its potential, particularly its zany gameplay mechanics and vibrant art style that invokes Dia de los Muertos.
If you’re interested in trying Morphies Law: Remorphed there’s a demo available. In keeping with the game’s puerile sense of humor, it bares the punny title of Fartnight. The demo lets you try out the game for free for the first 30 minutes. There’s only one catch: once your time’s up, all sound effects are replaced by fart noises.
