oceana1To say Oceania is a bit ambitious is an understatement, even for an MMO.  Graphically the environments look fantastic, shying away from the usual dark and mysterious and putting the world into the light with vibrant colors that should keep the S.A.D. away.  Where things get really exciting/crazy is what the developers are promising; everything.

  • Evolving characters.  Not just changing features and attributes like turning into vampires, but their physical form
  • Crafting.  Every game does this, right?  Oceania promises that every item will be unique based on the specific materials and methods used
  • Trade.  Again, standard right?  In Oceania if you want a sword, for example, someone had to create it.  The world won’t be pre-populated, someone’s gotta work
  • Racially neutral clans and guilds.  Groups are formed based on player ideology, not race or class
  • Private property.  Players can own plots of land, even entire islands, to build houses, raise livestock, grow crops, encourage city development.  Anything
  • User created content that can be sold for in-game or real world money

While each of those features are not entirely unique on their own, when put together and combined with the potential of the graphics engine; Oceania just might be something special.  Now we just need to see some gameplay footage.

Development for Oceania is mostly complete according to the developers, but they’re looking for $50,000 to see them through to the end.  They have until November 13th to get there.
