Ashen Rift: A Man and His Dog is one of the coolest things I’ve seen on Kickstarter. I mean ever. This survival horror game has been in development for less than 5 months, with just a small development team working in their free time, and the current gameplay footage they have of their Alpha looks better than most AAA games. It’s truly gorgeous, and the gameplay is something unique, only touched upon in the past.
The game calls itself survival horror, but the main focus of the game is that it can be played the way you, the player, would handle the situation. Would you go in, guns blazing, and burn through your ammo to be certain of your own safety, or will you stick to the shadows, distracting the Feeders with sound and light to sneak past or lure them into traps? The choice is truly yours, and you must choose wisely and be adaptable, as one of the last surviving people on Earth, with no one to help you but your trust mutt Bounder. A huge focus of Ashen Rift is the symbiotic relationship between a man and his dog, and learning to trust each other and use each other’s strengths is essential in dealing with an empty and dangerous world.
Ashen Rift is currently seeking funding, and has less than a month to reach its goal of $45,000 to allow the team to work full-time on the game. You can help by funding it on Kickstarter, liking the game on Facebook, or voting for it on Steam Greenlight. If this game picks up traction and exceeds its goal, one of the first stretch goals will be Oculus Rift support, so all you VR enthusiasts should keep a close watch on this.
