Born from a love for multiple genres comes Founders: Sons of Hyrmalion, a brand-new kind of MMORPG with more than a handful of interesting new elements. There are sooooooooooooo many MMOs out there already, and so very few of them are quality, that many people have begun to dismiss the genre altogether; but Founders may breathe some new life into the scene with a fresh take on online play. Integrating a revealing single-player campaign and rich lore with a buildable online game is a fresh idea, and if developers Uchronicals Entertainment can pull it off, we may be standing on the edge of a new genre entirely.
Founders seems to be very open, and emphasizes freedom above all else. On top of a Minecraft-style building system, there’s also tiered PvP and an open marketplace, complete with in-depth character customization and diverse server options to allow for modding and experimentation. The combat flirts with the tried-and-true MMO style, but takes a more action-oriented approach, spicing things up, and the introduction of electricity, liquids, and gasses to construction opens up a world of possibilities.
For now, Uchronicals has set its sights low, with a $20,000 goal and small expectations, only delivering the full MMORPG experience at a $2,000,000 stretch goal, but if they reach their $20,000 funding goal we can expect what they call “a little but pleasant co-op sandbox” in the same vein as Minecraft, but deeper and more nuanced. Founders: Sons of Hyrmalion is currently seeking funding, now on to that that stretch goal!
