hextraction1You know, it never really occurred to me until just now how well RTS and hexagons fit together. I mean, in a way top-down tower defense games are just RTS on a grid, but Hextraction, a new RTS title being developed by ComboMash, goes much further with the idea, adding worlds of depth to the strategy gameplay, and enhancing the experience with RPG elements and the ability to choose your team.

Hextraction is, at the forefront, an RTS game, but it takes the idea and runs with it a bit further than most games do. You’ll have multiple worlds to explore, choosing your own path across planets, choosing the fully-voice acted captain you’ll play as, and managing your customizable team of mercenaries to work alongside you. Mix all that up with procedurally generated elements, random story events within missions, and a permadeath system, and you’ve got a game with a ton of potential. Music and visuals are appealing, and community support from games like Starcraft 2 is encouraging, so if any of this is ringing your “I want to play that” bell, please go take a look and see if this is what you’ve been waiting for.

As of right now, ComboMash needs to raise nearly $70,000 in the next few weeks, so if you want to see Hextraction flourish, now is the time to act. There are some great reward tiers, but if you’re just interested in the game, you can grab a final copy for $15 or a final copy with beta access for $20. Vote on Steam Greenlight and spread the word and maybe Hextraction can become a reality.
