Dammit.

kingdom3Every time I proclaim that I’m sick of pixel graphics another game comes along to pull me back in.  The latest drug is the beautiful looking Kingdom from Thomas van den Berg.  Originally released last year, Kingdom is a strategy game puts players in the role of a king as he wanders his lands on horseback.  Upgrading plots of land, recruiting peasants, fighting bad guys; it’s all done from a laid back side scrolling perspective that’s both simple and addicting.

kingdom2Given the love that the original Kingdom received from everyone it should come as no surprise that a sequel is in the works, and Thomas has taken to Kickstarter to help make it happen.  For a mere €8,000 Thomas plans on improving the original games’ less than intelligent AI, dramatically increasing the size and scope of the lands you explore, adding more detail to said lands, and finally it looks like there are some nice new visual flourishes to be added.  Stretch goals are pretty conservative overall, with standard fare such as Mac and Android support to be added if enough can be raised, as well as a bigger game world with even more detail if the original funding goal can be doubled.  If €40,000 is raised then Thomas will make the deer a playable character, “somehow.”

Hey, I said the stretch goals were conservative “overall,” not entirely.

The Kickstarter campaign for Kingdom runs through June 5th, and has a funding goal of €8,000.
