farreaches2The Far Reaches launched on Kickstarter a few weeks ago with a very ambitious but doable concept that left plenty skeptical. A MMORPG coded up by a one person seemed impossible to many but some ignore the expertise of Voyager Games founder, Sam Ruggieri, who has many years of experience with Artificial Intelligence. This is the basis for TFR, NPCs designed like actual players and a world the players have a lot of creative freedom within. Inconveniently, potential backers have yet to hop on board with the concept and have been too uncertain to give TFR a chance. Roughly 30 days in, and only $2,510 of the $60,000 goal has been raised.

It appears the campaign is not going to end successfully.

In an effort to give potential backers a better understanding, Ruggieri has recorded multiple development logs and elaborate videos showcasing just what you can do in TFR. Even so much as to write extensive, novel-like posts on the TFR forums to elaborate every detail people may be missing.

Despite all that’s gone into it so far, it looks like the only way TFR will be a reality is through self funding. There is no word yet about a Kickstarter cancellation but we are doubtful it will come to that.

According to Ruggieri, there are opportunities he may go after to continue successfully self funding TFR. Though Kickstarter was the fastest and most effective method for TFR, thankfully there are other means of funding that will continue its progress.

For those who have been following TFR and maybe even funded it, do not fret! The Far Reaches is still planned to launch in 2015, regardless of the source of funding.
