My name is Nick Calandra and I’m excited to be joining the contributor team here at Cliqist. As I’ve finished up my second year of college and have just switched my major to Multimedia Journalism, I figured it was about time I’d try out writing for another site aside from my own. You may have heard of me before, as I run the gaming news outlet, OnlySP, or, Only Single Player.
I’ve been running gaming news outlets since I was a freshman in highschool, which means I’ve already been doing this sort of thing for over six years now. Time really flies doesn’t it? So, this summer instead of grilling burgers or doing something that I felt was really wasting my time to earn a quick buck, I’ve decided to write full time for the summer and expand my horizons.
As for my gaming experience, I’ve been playing video games since my Dad first introduced me to a computer when I was just four years old. My earliest gaming memories involve both Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter and Star Wars: X-Wing on the PC, and then when the PS One rolled around I got into Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and the like. I’m a 90’s gamer, so just like many of you, would love to see new Spyro or Crash Bandicoot games.
Gaming isn’t all I do, however. As I mentioned before, I’m currently in college at Nortwest Missouri State University, but in my free time I’m usually playing hockey when I have the time. I’ve always sort of had a split personality between gaming nerd and sports jock. Kind of a weird mash up, but I suppose I get the best of both worlds. If I’m not writing for my website, checking out the latest video game or hanging out with college buddies, I’m usually watching the Red Wings play and doing homework. Or sleeping, I like to sleep.
You may be surprised to hear, however, that I haven’t played many of the classic games that people rave over every day. The best example I an think of right now would be Final Fantasy 7 or Shemnue. When both the FF7 remake and Shemnue 3 were announced at E3 2015, I really had no idea what all the fuss was about. I have since brushed up on my gaming history and realized what I’ve missed out on, so you can bet I’ll be trying out the after-mentioned games when they’re released in the near future.
Within the next five years, however, I plan to graduate college (obviously) but I’m still not exactly sure where my life is headed. Considering I’ve just switched my major from business management to multimedia journalism, I don’t have much a clue where I’ll be. All I’m hoping for is that I enjoy my job, whatever I end up doing.
So, that’s a little introduction to me. I’ll be posting on Cliqist occasionally as I’m constantly working on my own outlet as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments section or throw me a follow on Twitter.
Note from the editor: I just wanted to chime in and welcome Nick to the team! He’s doing some great things over at OnlySP, and we’re fortunate to have him with us.
Hi Nick welcome, glad to know that well have someone writing from the state of Misery 😀
That name holds true, there’s no hockey here for me 🙁 The whole mid-west should just be dubbed Misery-West.
Welcome to the team. 🙂
Sorry I just saw these comments, so busy. Thanks, glad to be here!
Ah…I thought it was..a piece of news..wondered who was Nick Calandra..you shouldn’t put those kind of self-introduction article into the news section. It is confusing..
I’d like for us to have an announcement type section. hrrmmm
I think rather than having articles on people that may disappear (sorry Nick not targeting you speaking in general) without any contribution. It would be better to make a Bi-month (because it’s not like you’re a thousand) article that could introduce a member on the cliqist team. Starting with the oldest.
Rather than put that on News you could put that on Features section some sort of “tell me who you are” article. I think with your actual strenght that’s how i’d do it if i were you. Unless you’d want to revamp the site and add some section.
