The gaming community’s endless fascination with space, intergalactic warfare and the like continues with a new Kickstarter project entitled Disunity. One man, named Brett, who hails from Detroit, MI, is solely manning this RTS “strategic space warfare” game for PC. Like its many RTS predecessors, Disunity focuses on combat; in space this time around.

You’ll have the ability to control the way you engage enemy ships with your own: vary your “engagement doctrines”, “split and merge your fleets”, and take control of “wings of fighters launched from carriers.” Brett boasts an expansive galaxy laden with multiple star systems and “segmented into battlespaces”. Each star system is based on its real life counterpart, complete with all the “known stellar and planetary data for the system.”

As for the actual ships, they’ll vary in size and shape, each with their very own space battle pros and cons. You may choose to call upon the “nimble interceptor” to handle the grunt work and maybe the “mighty Drone Controller” to deal with shipping “nanite.” Some ships may serve as “direct combatants”, while others may snipe from further away, perhaps acting as “standoff-range combatants.” To counter offensive fleets, you’ll have “support” and “point defense” ships also at your disposal. With the varying types of ships available for deployment into intergalactic warfare, strategy and ship mix-and-matching is without a doubt the centerpiece of Disunity’s combat system.

A cinematic trailer set in the year 2619 is embedded in the Kickstarter trailer, which provides a deeper glimpse at the gameplay and some story context. Disunity has an end goal of $25,000.
