Before I start with why Discarded Angel isn’t worth the digital paper it’s being written on I want to state for the record that I have absolutely no problem with playing an adult themed game. You really should check out my Hentai collection. I’m certainly no prude. With that said, this one is all kinds of wrong on so many levels that I find it funny that Kickstarter even let it through their screening process. It makes you wonder if they even check projects that go through them before giving them the green light.
First off, there’s really nothing there except for a couple kinda creepy “boobie shots”. There is really no plot and what little there is sounds like a weak excuse to show off the female form. The guy tries to make the excuse of Discarded Angel is tasteful but not porn. There isn’t anything tasteful about the pitch at all. From what I gathered it’s purely a fetish game. At least the adult themed games that I’ve played have some semblance of a plot. This is just…wrong.
And then we have the lack of professionalism in the text itself. They drop the “S-bomb” too many times to take anything else you read seriously and the “Risks and Challenges” section is a joke of epic proportions. “I would also like to not cross the line and get labeled porn.” Sorry, dude. You’ve already crossed that line in my opinion. There’s sexy with adult content and then there’s porn. There’s nothing sexy with what I’ve seen of Discarded Angel.
It also makes one wonder just how long it’ll be before Kickstarter takes this one down for abuse of the “no adult content” policy.
Here for the naughty bits? The images are here. Better to deep link them than get someone fired from their day job for browsing digital T&A.
But…but…BOOBIES!
Heaven forbid there are boobies.
As a gamer is okay with my video games have sexual themes or outright nudity, this isn’t really a big deal to me
Much to do….
@Intendant_S:disqus surely this is an ‘each to their own’ situation..? I mean if YOU don’t find it appealing who are you to decide this game shouldn’t exist..? Surely that’s the WHOLE POINT of kickstarter, that even if the developer is inept and more than likely the project isn’t going to be 100% like what was originally pitched the GAMER has a choice to back whatever project they want into existence!?
You’re right, Kickstarter is about the potential backers voting with their wallets. I don’t see this one succeeding at all but you do have to know that Kickstarter (supposedly) has a no adult content policy. I’m frankly surprised that they haven’t taken this one down just from the pictures alone.
Sorry, but I’m just not seeing enough here to be upset about. Nudity doesn’t automatically equal porn, and what you’ve supplied doesn’t hint at anything more THAN nudity.
Well, even if it’s not porn in the strictest sense Kickstarter has a no adult content policy. Of the projects that I’ve seen this is the first to blatantly post nude images. And I’m talking about full frontal not just topless shots.
So no games that could garner an M rating are on kickstarter?
That’s the weirdest and most frustrating thing about all this. They’re not very consistent with their policy. Sometimes they’ll let an “M” or “AO” rated game through while others with much more mild content get squashed out of the gate. They have the “No adult content” policy but they don’t really seem to police it very well. If at all. I’m not saying that this is the worst but it’s also one of the most blatant.
But, in that case, what constitutes “adult content?” Is nudity all it takes? Excessive blood, gore, and violence? High levels of profane language?
If this isn’t detailed and enforced, I don’t see a reason to call out any one game that’s not being shut down.
Yeah, there is a blurry line. But you can also see some stuff — most stuff — and figure out pretty quick which side of the line it falls on. (Note that I didn’t click through to see exactly what the fuss is about). I mean, I have yet to hear anyone argue that Game of Thrones isn’t adult content or that Spider Solitaire is. More to the point though, there was a card game recently on Kickstarter about guessing which favor among drawn choices your opponent would prefer, and then having the loser perform them all at the end. It included some things like “make pancakes” but warned players to sift through before hand and pull out any cards people were uncomfortable with. I think a card game involving favors such as “watch me have intercourse with someone else” and bragging about how they consulted leading porn stars to come up with the cards is pretty well adult content, even if it doesn’t actually depict profanity, violence, or explicit actions in the campaign or final product.
There’s a difference between “adult” and “mature” content.
And lol, no. If there’s nothing explicit, if it’s hardly even sexual, how is it adult?
I think a card game with the entire premise of “losing = sexual acts to please the winner” is adult.
… that’s wholly contradicted both by your use of the “make pancakes” example AND the unprompted suggestion to pull out “uncomfortable” cards.
So I went and re-read the prohibited items page (https://www.kickstarter.com/rules/prohibited) and it appears to ban only porn and not other sorts of adult or mature content.
Aren’t we judgmental today
Jeez, what’s the big deal?
It looks dumb, but it can’t be worse than the Might No. 9. That game should’ve been banned.
So where’s the link to your hentai collection? 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation, looks better than the generic Japanese Animated styles.
It’s not really the nudity that crosses the line for me, it’s the sexist approach and voyeuristic vocabulary that I find disgusting. The developer supports their choice to use nudity with this sentence: “[to] showcase artistic hotness and emotional composition.” I don’t even know where to start on this one. Not to mention that it appears all of the nudity will be presented with conventionally beautiful women. Where are all of the hot guys?
Also the dialogue that has been showcased is appalling as well. “The lights went out and then I woke up here, naked. Please help, I think something bad happened.” Oof…
