What would you get if you mixed a cute 2D mascot platformer with Metal Gear Solid? Probably something resembling Nyx the Chameleon by MoonRift Entertainment, who are seeking $10,000 to finish the game. It bills itself as a “stealth/action/platforming side-scroller,” platformer with a classic 90’s-esque animal mascot as the star.

The game is similar to Mark of the Ninja, one of the inspirations behind the game, in that it’s all about using stealth in a game that looks like a standard 2D platformer. You’ll need to use a combination of stealth and jumping to get past not only enemies, but environmental hazards as well. And since you play a chameleon, you also have the ability to blend into your surroundings.

nyx01This is actually the second attempt at a Kickstarter. We wrote about the first campaign back in July 2015. Cliqist Editor-in-Chief Greg Micek devoted all of one sentence to it, saying it had some rough concept art to show and nothing else. It’s amazing to see how far the game has come in such a relatively short amount of time.

Still, this isn’t a great Kickstarter campaign, however good the game itself looks. There’s only one gameplay video for the pitch video and a couple of screenshots. The rest is basic text that doesn’t go into much detail. It touches on some of the characters and some of the gameplay, but doesn’t go beyond scratching the surface of a basic outline.

Double Dipping

There’s also an Indiegogo campaign ongoing for the game as well. That campaign is seeking just $1,000 with a two month time limit. The campaign is laid out exactly the same as the Kickstarter. Neither campaign makes any mention of the either. There are no rules on Kickstarter or Indiegogo about using another crowdfunding site for the same project at the same time, but it’s not a good look.

If you’re feeling up for some 2D platformer reminiscent of 90’s mascot platformers with some stealth thrown in, then this game seems to have you covered. It’s just a question of whether or not the campaign is good enough to make its goal.
