[dropcap size=big]E[/dropcap]very week we take a brief look at all of the Kickstarter video game campaigns that launched in the previous week.  This isn’t to say that all of these projects are worth your hard earned cash, but with any luck having all of them in one place will make it easier to educate yourself on the projects you’d like to back, and which ones to run from.  You’ll find two types of campaigns listed, “featured” and “the rest“.  Featured campaigns are those that contain a significant amount of game information, are from known developers, or are significant in some other way.  The rest of the games are usually smaller campaigns that are lacking in information, are from unknowns, have unanswered questions, or have not yet stood out for one reason or another.

Featured Campaigns :

elsinorelogo-1Game : Elsinore

What it is : Marcus wrote: “It’s always a joy when a new Kickstarter campaign manages to hook me right off the bat. When clicking on Elsinoreand seeing the basic description, I couldn’t help but keep reading: “Elsinore is a time-looping narrative adventure game set in the world of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.” In this game, you play as Ophelia in Hamlet, and find yourself stuck in a recurring loop spanning four days. At the end of the four days, everyone in Elsinore Castle ends up dead. You know this – but how can you prevent it? Is it even possible to do so?.

apartmentlogoGame : Apartment: A Separated Place

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Living in an apartment is an odd experience in some ways. It is only thin walls which separate you from other people living out their lives nearby. Although we all feel that our joys and troubles are uniquely are own, it’s really the case that many others have similar situations. Apartment begins with the story of Nick and Madison who just broke up after four years. With Nick now alone in the apartment the two shared, he must go through the process of restarting his life without her. Players experience his most innermost thoughts and memories by exploring the apartment.

EmpyreanRuleLogoGame : Empyrean Rule – Rise of the Ancients

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Are you into any of the following games?: Civilization, Eve Online, Total War? If you’re a fan of strategy then the answer is probably yes. Empyrean Rule – Rise of the Ancients is an upcoming online game which models itself after these excellent examples of the genre. It meshes both the large-scale strategic management of your rising empire but also allows for specific focus on real time battles. All of this takes place over a huge sandbox world, too, leaving lots of space to explore (and eventually gain control of).

triggerlogoGame : Trigger

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Most of the time we see visual novels which are cutesy, sexy, or in some other way light-hearted. Every so often, fans of the genre are treated to completely different sorts of storylines. This is the case with Trigger, a game described as a choose your own adventure narrative (or visual novel), currently on Kickstarter. The story focuses on a 30-something woman named Wendy and her husband Rick. Perhaps at one point they’d been a happy couple, but as of now Wendy lives life through a haze of depression. Things only get worse as the two lose their home. Will Wendy be able to come to terms with the reality that she’s living with PTSD?

yooka-layleelogoGame : Yooka-Laylee

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Need proof that the 3D platforming revival is upon us? Yooka-Laylee from Playtonic Games (comprised of ex-Rare Ltd staffers) has just launched on Kickstarter to tremendous success. The platformer is a spiritual successor to the much-loved Banjo-Kazooie series, right down to the duo of protagonists. Instead of a bear and bird, though, we’ve got a cute chamelon and bat. Yooka the chamelon is able to use skills related to his long tongue or roll about, while bat Laylee helps fly the team over gaps. It’s quite similar indeed to Banjo-Kazooie, but with a fresh coat of paint.

The Rest of the Campaigns :

V.O.I.D. : A cute looking and cool sounding side-scrolling action RPG. Just need to see some actual game.

From Ashes : A dark survival horror game that has some level footage to show off, but not much else.

Master Smasher : A very retro looking Asteroids looking game.

Plugged : An interesting sounding adventure for the Oculus Rift described as a “look-and-click adventure.”

Space Dust Racers : A party racer with lots of positive buzz that’s just not taking off unfortunately.

The Gates of Charon : This top-down adventure looks a bit rough, but it’s got an extremely low funding goal.

Bomblox : A rough looking mobile block game, the $2,000 budget may be a bit much.

Machine Made: Rebirth : A SNES era turn based RPG with nothing to show, but a modest $800 funding goal.

Voice of Steel : A cool looking fighting game, don’t see those on Kickstarter too often!

Crime : One of the laziest campaigns I’ve seen in a while, impressive.

Jumpy Punch : A pretty basic platformer.

Raido: Road to Ragnarök : A snazzy tactical card combat game with a slick campaign.

TheLostFable : The developer is asking for $5,000 in exchange for showing nothing.

Solar Eclipse : I’ve already talked about this game before, so read up on the absurdity of it.  The developer mentioned in the comments section that he’s not sure what tiers are.  Sigh.

Bloxia : A survival game with blocks.  But hey, at least the funding goal is only €200.

KUNOI : A “love letter” to retro platformers.

Eclipse:Avalon’s Gate : I’d love for this tactical space game to be more than it is right now.

Bridge World : Curious that this Kickstarter lacks any details, but the official website has a demo and a ton of screenshots.

Overdosed – A Trip to Hell : A lovely looking top down shooter that could have some potential.

Bionic Bug Attack : A 2D space shooter with nothing to show.

Aloran : A promising isometric RPG.

Frontier : Sometimes these “other” campaigns feature games that I wish were so much more, this old west town building RPG is one.

Alantaria : A ton of visual novels have been launching on Kickstarter lately!

Unraveled: Tale of the Shipbreaker’s Daughter : This promising RPG is back!  We’ve covered it quite a bit in the past, so check out our previous coverage.

That’s it for last week’s Kickstarter video game campaigns.  Watch your wallets!
