All right. I’ll admit it. I haven’t played the first episode of The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle. And it’s an oversight that I’ll have to very soon rectify as it does look to be an interesting point and click adventure game. One that’s just weird enough to be right up my alley. Thankfully it’s available at a relatively low pledge tier, which means that I can pick up both episodes and have all the money go towards getting the Kickstarter funded. Yay.
Anyway, The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle is about the titular character and his sidekick as they travel around doing stuff. And apparently in the first game they run afoul of the unimaginatively named Geoff the Murderer who…murders. The “Victorian Explorator” looks to be somewhat akin to a comedic Sherlock Holmes and Gavin a sort of Dr. Watson type. At least that’s what I got from the pitch. Remember, I didn’t play the first episode. I know, I should flog myself for this oversight.
Perhaps the main thing that had originally made me hesitant to try out The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle was the unique art style. While I most certainly don’t shy from the strange and creepy something just seemed…off. However, that is never a good excuse to overlook a potentially great story. After all, as the saying goes you can’t judge an adventure game by its art. Or something.
I do feel a bit ashamed to having passed on this one for so long, but it’s never too late to go back and give it a second chance. Which is something that I most heartily plan on doing with Bertram Fiddle. Eventually. I mean, I’ve got too many great adventure games that I still have yet to play. Still, this one will most certainly be put high on my list just because I like strange comedies.
